I would love for you to let me know your thoughts in the comment section below as we go through progress updates. And, if you want to make sure you are getting the latest updates each week, straight to your inbox without missing a single detail, you can sign up for my emails at the bottom of this post.
A few months ago I decided on the wall color and painted the walls. I have had a vision of this bedroom design for a while now and so I felt comfortable choosing the color without all of the design finalized. This room has one large bay window that faces south, so it gets a ton of sun throughout the day.
In almost all bedroom designs the bed is the focal point. It tends to be the most important and largest piece of furniture in the room. Even though the guest bedroom doubles as my office, the bed is still the focal point of the space. Once I nail the look of the bed, all of the other design decisions will be much easier.
Last year for the ORC, I transformed my old basement office into a bright and light shared bedroom for my 2 girls (check out the final reveal here.) I loved the challenge it gave me and the timeline to get it done! For this challenge, I decided I wanted to transform our guest bedroom into something that can still function for our guests but also serve as an office. The room started this challenge looking like this:
Last week, I talked about the current state of our forgotten guest bedroom and shared all the images that inspired the eclectic modern farmhouse style I'm going for. I left you hanging a little bit at the end, but I think it was worth the wait! Let's jump into the design plan for this space!
The color scheme revolves around various shades of blue and green - two of my favorites! I also brought in warm woods, and touches of black and brass to create a sophisticated space with a touch of whimsy. You've gotta have a little bit of fun in a guest bedroom, right
I went on quite the search for the perfect simple modern farmhouse bed for this room and finally found it a few weeks ago! If you follow along on Instagram, you might have seen my post about falling in love with a different bed from LexMod only to discover it didn't come in a full size, only queen. Ugh! So it was back to the drawing board. After searching for what felt like forever, I stumbled upon the perfect substitute from Crate&kids (formerly the Land of Nod). It just goes to show you never know where you're going to find the right piece - sometimes kids retailers surprise you and have some stellar stuff for adult rooms!
A couple of mid-century modern nightstands flank the bed and they have quite a story behind them. They're vintage and they came from the house my brother and sister-in-law bought last year. When they were looking at the house, my mom (who was with them) happened to ask about the mid-century modern furniture they had in one of the bedrooms. The person who was selling was planning to have an estate sale to get rid of everything, but ended up giving those nightstands to my mom for free! She knew I loved mid-century furniture, so off they went to my house. They need some love and I'll be sharing more about them in a future post.
Ok! I think that wraps it up for this week's ORC post. I can't wait to share the progress I'm making on the room next week! In the meantime, be sure to follow along on IG Stories - I'll be sharing sneak peeks periodically over there!
I am going for an earthy neutral vibe for our guest room. The room gets such great natural light that I want it to be light and bright with just a touch of mood. I am looking to add lots of texture and a few pops of black accents.

I got a lot of work done this week. The room that I am making over is at our lake house. The house is about a 45-minute drive from where I live. So far, I have worked a total of 3 separate days at the house.
I am happy to be working with Novo Building Products for a second round and they are generouly providing all trim and moulding for the makeover. I recently used the Faux Maple Wood beams in my bedroom makeover and they turned out amazing!
I am so happy that my One Room Challenge is now complete and ready to reveal to you all! Truth be told, this one seemed a bit easier than my first, but it still took a lot of work to make this happen in six weeks.
First, a quick reminder of the process that we follow. The One Room Challenge is a six week event hosted by Linda of Calling It Home and her media partner, House Beautiful. Participating bloggers select a room to make-over within their respective homes. Each week, the progress of the make-over is revealed. Today, all of this comes to a culmination with The Final Reveal. You can just feel the excitement!
Reflecting on all components of this room, the rug has been my greatest challenge on this journey towards the reveal. That and the fact that we snuck away to Charleston for four days the last week before the reveal! But, back to the rug.
And there you have it. I sincerely hope you have enjoyed the weekly sneak peeks into my second One Room Challenge. Hopefully you will feel inspired to make-over a room in your own home. Jen, your bedrooms have the most romantic vibe! Love all of your choices, especially the nightstands and chairs! Your guests are so lucky to have this GORGEOUS bedroom to retreat to. Well done friend!Xoxo
This area with the chair is right by the windows in the afternoon and evenings it has lots of natural light and a great view of the woods and trees. My plans for this section of the bedroom is a built-in seating area under the windows. This is on our to-do list.
New year, new you mantras are popping up everywhere these days. But before you tackle those resolutions, you'll want to start by updating the most important room of your house: your bedroom. To hel...

The fourteenth season of Australian reality television series The Block premiered on August 5, 2018, on the Nine Network.[1] Hosts Scott Cam and Shelley Craft, site foreman Keith Schleiger with Dan Reilly, and judges Neale Whitaker, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer, all returned from the previous season,[2] with special guests William Schirripa and Roshan Abraham.
Each week during the weekly walkthrough, Alice Stolz from Domain will judge each team's current room. She judges each room on suitability, continuity and flow, functionality, progress & budget. The weekly winner will be awarded a $10,000 weekly prize that is split equally in cash and marketing with domain. Each week the points are tallied and the team at the end with the highest score will have themselves and their property featured on the cover of Domain Magazine.
This ensuite is bathed in gorgeous, natural light thanks to the super high ceilings and of course, a skylight. The judges loved it too, noting the similar colour palette and fixtures to the neighbouring bedroom.
The judges on the other hand, loved the space, giving the boys top spot this week. The aged brass tapware, matte finish bath and basin got the tick of approval, along with more kitsch things like the gold bath ducks.
It has been an absolute kick in the pants to be a part of the ORC community over the last six weeks. I am incredibly honored to have been among such awesomeness. The support, encouragement and talent is been second to none.
What a transformation. I thought initially it was painted brick, but once I read on, it was a mural which is even more impressive. It looks like a bedroom/loft in New York City, very industrial. Great job Maria
Hi Lindi! I just wanted to let you know that I will be featuring this post on Talented Tuesday tomorrow! I absolutely loved all the carefully thought out details of this bedroom! Great job! Feel free to check out the post over at Positively Bliss tomorrow at 9AM Central and share it with your friends!
This room is the smallest bedroom in our house, so my goal is to create more space with a smaller framed bed. My style has definitely evolved and changed over the past 4 years and I want the room to feel more like my style now.
From a design perspective, the guest room is now much more balanced and visually interesting. Modern frames and a boho pillow and baskets contrast traditional elements like the headboard, nightstands, and sconces. A vintage style rug adds character, and the layered bedding looks so much more inviting. This was my first time planning, sourcing, and styling a whole room and I enjoyed the process so much!
